I came across this today and I can't believe that anyone would be willing to pay that much for a pair of plastic shoes. I remember when jellies were popular in the early 80's and I begged, BEGGED my mom to buy me a pair in the 4th grade. Instead of the pearly pink kind that I wanted, I ended up with opaque white ones that were (of course) on sale for about $5. They were, in retrospect, far cooler than the ones that everyone else was wearing out on the playground. It turns out that Marc Jacobs also has some out on the market that are about the same price as the Givenchy ones, but at least the MJ ones are cute...

Hey- wow! That's nuts! I agree about the marc jacobs- they're wearable, even if they're not the most comfortable thing around (how could they be?). The givenchy ones are hideous!
I also had jellies back in the 80's, but can't remember the color I ended up with. I'm pretty sure the color was "cool," but the style of the weaving was probably not since, knowing my mom, they were probably imitation jellies.
I loved, loved, loved jellies! I had several pairs. They were the only "slip on" shoes I was allowed to wear. In high school I saved up and got a pair of black heel jellies from J. Crew. My sister had sparkly Guess jellies. The Givenchy ones look like something you would find in Chinatown. Like, you would pay maybe $5 for them...or 2 pair for $9.
I have those in pink and taupe. I think they will be very useful partywear in the summer.
OH I totally had a dream about jellies last night! trying on different sizes and colors with my sister...so weird. I think I need a pair.
